01. Do I need an appointment to see a Counsellor?
→ No. You can use the
Drop-In system. Counsellors do Drop-Ins

04. How much does it cost for personal counselling?
→ There are no fees for counselling.

05. Are issues discussed with a Counsellor confidential?
→
All counseling sessions are subject to strict professional
policies on confidentiality. The only
exceptions to these rules of confidentiality are:
a) There is a serious risk of harm to
yourself or another person.
b) Reasonable grounds to suspect the
abuse or neglect of a child.
c) Court ordered subpoena.
d) With your permission.

06. I am really upset about something at the college (a course, a person, an incident, etc), who ca
→ At the College, you are always encouraged to deal with the
situation directly, that means, speak to the person/people involved
discreetly. However, if that is not
possible or realistic or in your opinion, safe, then please, speak to a
Counsellor. The College has a variety of
Policies that relate to your right to be comfortable and safe at your
college.

07. My teacher suggested that I should see a Counsellor and get some assistance. What should I do?
→ If a teacher has suggested that Counselling could be helpful then you have a choice, you could make an Appointment to see a Counsellor and follow through using counselling to make some personal changes. However, you do not have to follow-up, as an adult, you have the right to refuse the teachers recommendation. It is your choice.

08. I need help with planning my program, can a Counsellor help me?

Counsellors can help you with any of the following planning

09. I have lost interest in my program; can a Counsellor help me explore a new program?
→ Yes, counsellors have lots of information available. A counsellor may suggest you write a Career test (fees apply), to assist in your career search.

10. I have run short of money and need to use the College Food Bank. What should I do?
→ The Foodbank is located in the Counselling Office (Room
E109) and is available to all Lambton
College students.

11. I received an email from the college indicating that I have a Day 11/28 code. What does this m
→ A Day 11/28 code means that there is a problem with one or more of your classes. Please read the email and follow the steps outlined in this email.

12. Does a Day 11/28 code have an effect on my Final Grade for the course?
→ No, a Day 11/28 code is feedback for you, telling you that
there is a problem that needs attention.
It is an early warning system, an important feedback loop, but the code
will not appear on your transcript.

13. What should I do if I get a Day 11/28 code that I disagree with?
→ Please see your teacher and discuss the code.

14. I heard another student talking abour a Day 11/28 code, is there a reason that I didn't get a D
→ There is a reason, and it is good news. Day 11/28 codes are only given to students
who are experiencing problems with a course or courses. So no code means that things are going well
at College. Keep up the good work.

15. Where can I see if I have a Day 11/28 code?
→ Look under grades in WebAdvisor. If you need help, go to View Grades .

16. Is there a way to estimate what effect classes I have as yet to complete will have on my GPA?
→ Yes, use the GPA Calculator,
which allows you to use any grade you wish for courses. The calculator will give you an unofficial
estimate.

17. What is PLA or PLAR?
→ PLAR stands for Prior Learning Assessment and
Recognition. PLAR allows students to
challenge courses provided the student has had relevant work related experience.

WebAdvisor Help

1.0 What is WebAdvisor?
→
All registered students at Lambton College have access to WebAdvisor. WebAdvisor offers you, the student, a very useful link to the college via the Internet. However, because some of the information in WebAdvisor is sensitive and confidential you must have a user name (your student number) and password (sent to you by the college) to get into WebAdvisor.
WebAdvisor allow you to have access to useful information from the college. The following are a few examples of what WebAdvisor offer you:
- Paying your fees
- Accessing your timetable and class schedules
- Add/Drop classes
- View Day 11/28 midterm codes (grades)
- View your final grades as soon as your professor enters them
- Get an unofficial transcript
- Search for classes - See if an early morning class is available at other times
WebAdvisor does not provide you with e-mail. The college uses (My Lambton) as an e-mail link. WebAdvisor also does not provide you with online courses and course materials. The college uses LION for the delivery of online courses and online parts of courses.

1.1 Who can use WebAdvisor?
→ WebAdvisor is a secure setting. You need a student number and password to access WebAdvisor.
WebAdvisor is used by prospective students who are in the application cycles. WebAdvisor provides you with up to the minute information about your application status.
WebAdvisor is used by current students to get information about timetables and grades, to pay fees and a variety of other student activities.

1.2 What can I do using WebAdvisor?
→ The following is a list of some of the things you can do in WebAdvisor. For a complete list, please log in to WebAdvisor and click on "Students".
- Notify the college of a change of address
- Pay your fees
- Register for classes
- Drop classes
- Get your final grades
- Get an unofficial transcript or grade report
- Get your current timetable or class schedule

2.0 How do I log into WebAdvisor?
→ To log in to WebAdvisor you must have
- User ID - This is your student number, e.g. c0012345
- Password

2.1 What do I need to log into WebAdvisor?
→
In order to log in to WebAdvisor you need an internet link to WebAdvisor. You can use a high speed link, DSL or dial up. The choice is yours.

2.2 What happens if I don't know my student number?
→ Your student number is sent to you by the college by e-mail as well as by regular mail. Check your e-mail and go through the letters you received from the college to find it. If you cannot find it, the only way you can obtain your student number is to go to the registrar's office (Room A102). You must provide them with valid government photo identification (i.e. driver's license, health card, etc.). Your student number will not be given unless you have photo identification.

2.3 What happens if I don't know my password?
→
If you have forgotten your WebAdvisor password you can simply reset it. This is a quick and easy process. Please go through the following steps to reset your password:
- Go to Webadvisor and click on "Students"
- Click on "What's my password"
- Click on "I don't remember, reset my password"
- Fill in personal information and click "Submit"

2.4 Can I change my home address in WebAdvisor?
→ Yes, you can easily change your home address in WebAdvisor and the change takes place immediately. Here's how:
- Log in to WebAdvisor
- Click on Students
- Click on Address Change
Make the changes & click on Submit

2.5 Can I change my phone number in WebAdvisor?
→ Yes, you can easily change your home phone number in WebAdvisor and the change takes place immediately. Here's how:
- Log in to WebAdvisor
- Click on Students
- Click on Phone Number Change
- Make the changes & click on Submit

2.6 Can I change my email address in WebAdvisor?
→ Yes, you can easily change your e-mail address in WebAdvisor and the change takes place immediately. Here's how:
- Log in to WebAdvisor
- Click on Students
- Click on E-mail Change
Make the changes & click on Submit.
Lambton College will use your student e-mail account for all college related correspondence. Please check your college e-mail on a regular basis.

3.0 How can I find out if a course is being offered this term?
→ WebAdvisor provides you with an excellent way to find out if a course is being offered. Use Search for Classes if you want to look for classes without registering. Use Search & Register if you want to actually add this course to your timetable.

3.1 I want a course but I don't know the course code (numbers).
→ WebAdvisor asks that you fill in at least two fields. So, if you enter the term (e.g. 2007FALL) and the subject (e.g. English) WebAdvisor will give you a list of all the English classes offered in the Fall term of 2007.

3.2 Can I see a list of al the, for example, Business program classes offered this term?
→ No, WebAdvisor does not offer program timetables. However, you can enter all the courses in a program if you wish. In other words, WebAdvisor gives you course search abilities, not program.

3.3 Can I get a list of classes offered in the evening only?
→ Yes, there are a few different ways to do this. Remember the more information you input in your search for sections the more effective your search will be. The more basic search will have only two entries. Enter the term and fill in 6pm in the ‘Sections Meeting After' drop down box. You can refine your search if you also fill in the days of the week you want as well as the academic level (e.g. post secondary).

3.4 Can I get a list of classes offered in the morning only?
→ Yes, WebAdvisor allows you to set your time parameters by filling in the ‘Sections Meeting After' drop down box and/or filling in the ‘Sections Meeting Before' drop down box. Remember, the more information you input into your search the better the results are. For best results, fill in the before and after boxes as well as the term, subject and course number if possible.

3.5 How can I register (add) for classes?
→
To register (add) for a class follow the instructions below:
- Click on "Search/Register for Sections"
- Select your term from the drop down box
- Search for the course (class) that you wish to register (add) for (eg. SDV - College Orientation)
- Enter the four digit course number (eg. 1001)
- Click "Submit"
- Click on the course to get a brief Course Description
- Check Availability/Capacity to see if there is still room to register (If a 0 appears, the class is full)
- Select the Course Section that you want to register for by clicking the check box
- Click "Submit" to register for that class
- Click "Submit" again to confirm registration
NOTE: If you get a message that does not allow you to register for a class, please read the message carefully and try to overcome the problem. If you are unable to solve the problem, please contact Counselling at (519) 542-7751, ext. 3412

3.6 Where can I go to view or print out my timetable?
→ Go to "My Schedule" to view or print your timetable. You may view your schedule as a text document, or a grid (diagram) by using the drop-down menu in the "Schedule Type" box.

3.7 What should I do if the class I want is full?
→
If a class is full (check availability/capacity in section selection results) you have two choices. First, put yourself on the wait list for that class. Second, find another section of that class that has available space.
NOTE: YOU CAN "WAIT LIST" AND "SELECT" ANOTHER SECTION IF YOU WISH.

3.8 How can I drop a class?
→
To drop a class, follow the steps below:
- Click on "Drop Sections"
- Check the class that you would like to drop
- Click "Submit"
- Click on "Submit" again to confirm dropped class

3.9 Why do I get a message saying I can't register for a course?
→ There are a number of reasons you receive the "cannot register" message. The most common is because the course and section you have requested is restricted to students in a particular program. Go back and find another section of that subject and try again. Secondly, you cannot register is the class is full. Use the WAITLIST function instead.

4.0 How can I check if I am full time in my program?
→
At To check your status (Full-Time or Part-Time) please follow these steps:
- Log into WebAdvisor
- Click on "My Schedule"
- Enter the appropriate term
- Select "Grid Schedule" at "Schedule Type"
- Your status is at the top left of the page

4.1 Where can I get information about General Education Electives?
→ Click on CURRENT STUDENTS at www.lambton.on.ca. Through the Registration link on page, click on the link to general education electives. Click on the link that is for your program and your year of study.

4.2 Can I put myself in a waiting list for a class?
→
Yes, putting yourself on a waiting list for a class is easily done. Follow these simple steps:·
- Log in to WebAdvisor·
- Click on Students·
- Click on Search & Register for Sections.
- Find the class you want to be waitlisted for·
- Select the class you want·
- Use the Action drop down box to highlight Waitlist·
- Submit (You will then see conformation that you are waitlisted for that class)·
- Finally, click on Manage My Waitlist to check that your status for that class is now Waitlist.

4.3 Can I get a list of classes that I am waitlisted for?
→ Yes, click on Manage My Waitlist in your student WebAdvisor. This will provide you with a list of all the classes you are currently waitlisted for.

4.4 Can I remove myself from a waiting list?
→ Yes, to remove yourself from a waitlisted class go to MANAGE MY WAITLIST and remove the class.

4.5 How can I get permission to get into a full or restricted class?
→
Getting permission to get into a FULL or RESTRICTED class is not an easy process. You will have to e-mail the assistant to the dean of the division who provides the class to your program and request permission.
For BUSINESS OR GENERAL COURSES, this includes almost all general education electives (English, psychology, sociology, etc.) you must contact Judy Thorner at judyt@lambton.on.ca.
For all TECHNOLOGY COURSES (biology, chemistry, math, etc.) you must contact Sandra Morrison at Sandra@lambton.on.ca.
For all HEALTH & COMMUNITY SERVICE COURSES (Police, Law & Security, Social Service, Child & Youth, etc.) you must contact Lois Wellington at loisw@lambton.on.ca.

4.6 How can I tell if a class is full?
→
When you search or register for a class look for the AVAILABLE/CAPACITY heading on the section results page. This tells you how many seats are available and how many total seats that class has. If the availability says "0" then the class is full. At this point, you can choose to waitlist yourself for a full class.

4.7 How can I tell if a class is restricted?
→ When you try to register for a class a message appears at the top of the page telling you that your registration for that class was not successful. The message will tell you why you were not able to register. The most common reason is that the class is restricted, only open to students in a particular program.

4.8 Why are some classes restricted?
→ Class restrictions are set up to insure that there is enough space in a class for students who are registered in a particular program.

4.9 Can I do a full program withdrawal on WebAdvisor?
→
There are two ways to do a full program withdrawal (dropping ALL your classes and leaving the college).
- See a Counsellor.
- Print a form:
- Click on "Current Students" at www.lambton.on.ca
- Click on "Registration"
- Click on "Request Applications and Forms"
- Scroll down the page and click on "Program Withdrawal"
- Print, fill out, and return this form the the Registrar's Office

5.0 Where can I see my Final Grades?
→
You can see your final grades in WebAdvisor by following the steps below:
- Click on "Grades" under Registration
- Select the term you want to see your grades for
- Click "Submit"

5.1 When can I see my Final Grades?
→ You can see your final grades soon after your teacher or professor enters them into the system. The general guideline is 2 weeks after your final exam you will probably be able to see your final grades in WebAdvisor.

5.2 What does DT, MT, ES, SS or NS mean on my grade report?
→ These codes are used during the term for the Day 11/28 faculty process. These codes have NO effect on your grades.

5.3 Where can I find last term/last year's grades?
→ You can view your grades for any term in WebAdvisor. Check off the term that you wish to see.

5.4 Where can I get a list of the courses I still have to complete to get my diploma?
→ Program evaluation will give you a list of all the courses you still need to complete. Program Evaluation also allows you to use a "What if" feature. This feature lets you get an evaluation for any program at Lambton. If you need help, please click on the following link for more detailed information on understanding you Evaluation.
